Bachelor Programs Prospectus 2023/2024

The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA)is an institution of higher education dedicated to cultivating superb artistic talents. We offer a rich array of Bachelor programs, both B.A.and B.M., to non-Chinese students who are interested in Chinese opera and theatre performing, music, directing, theatrical writing, stage arts, new media arts, cross-cultural communication and cultural industry management. Now 2023/2024 programs are open for application.
I. The Overall Goal of Our Programs
The overall goal of our programs is to develop superb artists, scholars and educators who are highly empathetic and creative and competitive in their professional fields, totally capable of working at a cross-cultural workplace and in a rapid changing world, and have a deep understanding of both traditional and contemporary Chinese arts and culture, have the interdisciplinary vigor and international vision as well as a great sense of responsibility for the common future of mankind.
II. Program Information
We have full-time B.A.and B.M. programs(four years, with the exception of Composition for Chinese Opera which needs a five-year study period) at NACTA. Candidates need to send their applications (with necessary documentations and materials) via email in the first step. And next, if we can tell from the applications that their owners are academically and artistically sound and well prepared, we will inform the applicants to attend the interviews and auditions online or on site. Please find program brochure in appendix I.
III. Eligibility for Application
(i) Be over the age of 18 and non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport, and according to Document No.12(2020) of Ministry of Education of P.R.China (http://www.moe.gov.cn/srcsite/A20/moe_850/202006/t20200609_464159.html), if he/she is an immigrant to foreign countries from China (including the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas), or was born in foreign countries and became non-Chinese citizen naturally but has a parent who is Chinese, the applicant must have (i) the foreign citizenship which is in accordance with that on his/her passport for at least four years, AND (ii) a record of two or more accumulative years of residence in foreign countries during April 30, 2019 (or earlier) up to April 30, 2023(The beginning and ending dates of residence should be in accordance with the entry and exit dates of visa issued by the foreign country where he/she takes up residence. Nine or more months can be considered as one year while calculating.);
(ii) Be morally and physically sound and have no crime background;
(iii) Have a high school diploma or equivalent or will hold one by September 1, 2023;
(iv) Reach the level of Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Band 4 or higher levels.
IV. Application Date
From January 8, 2023 to March 31, 2023.
V. Application Documentations and Materials
(i) the page of personal information of your valid passport;
(ii) a portrait photograph (3.5*5.3 cm, 413p*519p);
(iii) high school diploma ( if applicants are still high school students, he/she should submit a confirmation letter written by host university/college concerning that the applicant will receive the diploma by September 1, 2023);
(iv) high school transcript;
(v) a filled-out NACTA Application toBachelor Programs;
(vi) CV (including education background, awards, etc.)
(vii) research or practice plan (500 Chinese characters or 800 English words);
(viii) certificate of HSK 4 or higher level (if applicants don’t have a HSK 4 or higher ones, they need to attend an on-line NACTA Entrance Test of Chinese Language.);
(ix) No-Crime-Background check letter from the local police;
(x)report of medical checkup within 6 months;
(xi) please see other application materials required by the department which offers the program you want to get in in appendix I.

Applicants should be responsible for the wholeness and authenticity of the documentations and materials they send to us, and for the possible effects on their admission if the documentations and materials are fake or not complete. We will review all applications during April 1-15, 2023 and send a feedback email to applicants.
VI. Interviews and Auditions
Applicants who receive an email including the review feedback AND interview notification will attend interviews and auditions (both in Chinese language) online during April 16-30, 2023.
Applicants’ performance in interviews and auditions and their academic or artistic background shown in the documentations and materials will be important factors in our admission decision. Only applicants who are really fit for the programs will receive an admission letter around June 20, 2023 and their enrollment guide packs and X1 visa application guide in late July or early August, 2023.
New students should get registered on campus in early September, 2023 and attend medical check-up in Beijing, China. It’s very important for new students to know that all enrollments are contingent upon approval of an appropriate visa as required by the National Immigration Administration of China. We help new students apply for a visa X1 or transfer their valid stay permit into study type, the National Immigration Administration, however, remains the final arbiter of all immigration-related cases. For students who are unable to come to Beijing by an appropriate visa, we will deal with his or her case according to enrollment management regulations which concern how to maintain student status at NACTA.
IX. Tuition, Insurance and Accommodation
Test Fee: 400 CNY/new student
Tuition: 35000 CNY/academic year
Insurance: at least 800 CNY/year (the expenses vary according to different insurance plans, please find plans at http://en.lxbx.net/)
International students may choose to live in student dormitory at NACTA (the cost varies due to different room types, from 900 CNY/year to 1200 CNY/month) , or other residence in Beijing upon a written approval from NACTA.
We offer International Student Scholarship funded by Beijing Municipal Government to new and current students who have impressive achievements in their interviews or study fields. Full scholarship is 20000 CNY/academic year, half type is 10000/academic year.
